Separations for Circularity Roadmap

Share

The roadmap brings together partner strategies into a shared innovation agenda for a circular and CO₂-neutral chemical industry.

To develop an economy that is largely circular in nature, separation technology that enables recycling and facilitates bio-based sourcing of the make-up chemistry is essential. Considering that bio-based and circular processes value chains substantially deviate from the linear processes that we have made use of, it is key to identify the needs of the involved industrial sectors. In this document, four application domains have been identified as most relevant to ISPT and the Separations for Circularity (SfC) cluster, and for each of them challenges and opportunities towards approaching the ideal “zero discharge processing” (ZDP) as close as possible are identified.

The application domains Biorefinery & food-related, Recycling, Water scarcity, and Scarcity of Raw Materials & (Re)Sourcing all have their specific challenges to be addressed, and these include aqueous, organic, and gaseous streams.
