René Paas (Dordrecht, 16 September 1966) has been the King’s Commissioner in Groningen since 2016. He is an experienced administrator with a strong commitment to the public domain and to the people who depend on it. Connecting, strategic, decisive.
Paas studied law and public administration in Groningen. In 1990, he became a member of the municipal council, party leader, and alderman. As chairman of the CNV trade union and later of Divosa, he served for eleven years as a figurehead and advocate in the socio-economic ‘polder’. He now fulfills the same role for Groningen.
He is married and the father of three children who are currently studying.
