Please note: The conference will be held in Dutch. An English translator will be available at session 1 (Batteries) and session 3 (The Carbon Value Chain of the Future)

Breakout sessions descriptions

Breakout session 1: Batteries (English translator available)
After this session, you will be up to date on the state of affairs and opportunities for the Dutch battery cluster, you will have an idea of the requirements in the chain and you will know which concrete next steps your organisation can take together with others. The session will be introduced by Moniek Tromp (material chemistry professor RUG & figurehead Battery Competence Cluster) and will continue with stakeholder perspectives from Bart de Vries (battery development RWE Supply & Trading) and Gert Jan Jongerden (founder and director Exergy Storage & project partner STARBATCH)

Moderator: Irene ten Dam

Breakout session 2: Direct and Indirect Electrification
Grid congestion is stalling direct electrification – and with it, industrial decarbonisation. Indirect electrification via molecules such as hydrogen, ammonia and methanol offer a solution. The Northern Netherlands, with its seaports, infrastructure and industrial clusters, can play a key role in this. Discover how we can seize this unique opportunity together.
The session will be introduced by Carol Xiao, Director Business Developer at ISPT, and continued by perspectives from Marcel Galjee, Chief Strategy Officer at HyCC and Fred Hage, Business Development Manager Hydrogen at Essent.

Moderator: Peter Melis

Breakout session 3: The Carbon Value Chain of the Future (English translator available)
This break-out session offers inspiration and insight into the transition towards a competitive, sustainable and circular carbon value chain. What feedstocks will still be available in the near future? How can we remain competitive? What role can the Dutch industry play? And what crucial role will your organisation play now and in 5 years’ time?
The session will be introduced by Dennis Mous (Business manager circular economy Groningen Seaports). Ellis Huijsmans (Chief Project Officer at Perpetual Next) and Mark Breed (New business development manager environmental solutions at Teijin Aramid) will then share their perspectives, pitching their dreamed futures for the carbon value chain of the future.

Moderator: Geoffrey Schouten

Breakout session 4: Food goes Electrified
What does the energy transition mean for food production? In this session, we will discuss opportunities, possibilities and obstacles in making our first necessity of life more sustainable. The session will be led by Peter de Jong (ISPT, NIZO, lecturer in Sustainable Food Processing) and introduced by Nienke van Driel (FrieslandCampina) and Erik Koops (Avebe), who will share their practical experience of energy transition in the food industry.

Moderator: Peter de Jong
